Hooking Up a 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch to a Reese M5 Series Hitch in a 2014 Ford F-250

Question:

The hook always has a portion left out in the fully open position. When hooking up the trailer, if the kingpin is not far enough to the right passenger side the trailer is pushed backwards instead of the kingpin sliding into the opening. How will we get it to unhook? in other words, how will we be able to insure the kingpin is fully to the right passengers side so that the exposed portion of the jaw doesnt keep it seated in the hitch. You are correct. The M5 Series 5th wheel hitches like # RP30921 will have a little bit of the jaw sticking out. This is normal. You still back the truck up like normal, straight on. What will happen is the king pin will push against the jaw. That will push the jaw in (towards the driver's side) which will also disengage the handle from the open position. Once the king pin is fully in the hitch the jaw will close around it automatically and you can then insert the keeper pin to keep the handle in place.
