Bumper Clearance of Draw-Tite # 75673 When Installed on 2011 Subaru Outback Wagon
Question:
I am looking at a Draw-Tite 75673 for my 2011 Outback but I need to know the dimension from the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper. According to your installation videos the dimension is: 2010 = 6 2011 = 7 2012 = 5-3/4 2014 = 4-1/2 According to my local Subaru dealer, there is no difference between the body structure or the bumper for 2010-2014 Outbacks. So which is the correct dimension? I have a bike with a carbon fiber frame and as you are aware, the ion of applicable bike racks is pretty limited. Thanks!

The hitch manufacturers don't collect hitch pin hole to bumper clearance distance information for given vehicles, which is a darn shame in my opinion. It would be very easy for them to record this information when they do their test fits, and would make life easier for everybody. Sigh.
When we installed the Draw-Tite # 75673 on a 2011 Subaru Outback Wagon, we found the clearance distance to be 7 inches. I can't explain the differences in the 2010-2014 Outback dimensions, but perhaps there were minor changes in the rear bumper or fascia structure that isn't immediately evident by looking at it, but is apparent when measurements are taken.
I looked through our various wheel mount bike racks, and found that the Saris Freedom SuperClamp, part # SA4025 offered 12 inches of clearance between the hitch pin hole and the closest portion of the rack. The rack is attractively priced, and includes an anti-rattle hitch lock and an integrated cable lock to deter theft.
