Travel Trailer has Squeaking Brake Drums

Question:

After I have disconnected and set up my travel trailer I can hear my brake drums squeaking. Its as though the brakes are not completely releasing causing a rubbing/squeaking sound. I have tried adjusting the brakes. After towing and setting up again the sounds are back. What could be causing this? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

First, on drum brakes they do need to be adjusted so that there is a slight but constant drag of the pads on the drum when the wheel is turned. If this is what you are hearing then it is normal. To determine if that is the sound you are hearing you can adjust the pads in and then turn the wheel. If the noise stops then that was the issue. But you will need to adjust them back.

It could also be some bearing noise. You will need to make sure the bearings are packed with grease. I have included a link to the right to a video that should help. If you need to re-pack the bearings then you can use bearing grease # L11380.
