Recommended Stoplight Circuit to Install a Brake Controller in a 1979 Ford F150  

Question:

i have a 1979 f-150 ford truck, i am installing a hayes energizer III brake control, you have stated all i need to do is splice into the wire that gets hot coming off the brake light control switch behind the pedal however the instructions i have says for 1989 - 1994 ford you should not use this source it will blow out the switch? but 1999 and later this is ok, it does not go back to 1979 so i am confused?? can u help please, thanks,

You should be totally fine installing a brake controller in your 1979 Ford F150 by using the brake pedal switch as the stoplight switch for the controller. You will just want to find the circuit that only sees voltage when the brakes are applied and none when not and you would be fine. You would want to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993.
