Where to Find the Stoplight Switch for Installing a Brake Controller in a 1998 Fleetwood Flair RV
Question:
I am at the last step of wiring a tekonsha voyager brake controller in my 1998 fleetwood flair 25 foot RV. My last connection is to run a red wire to the cold side of the brake switch. There is not much room to work, but I can see the brake switches, and had the wife watch the lights in the back as I manuvered the brake switches. At the brake pedal, there are two plastic pistons that release as the brake pedal is pressed away for the mounting plate. The piston and connected switch on the left side, light the brake lights when released. I had to hard wire all connections up to this point, because the one side of the plug they sent with the controller did not match any plugs in the RV. So how would I connect the red brake switch wire of the controller to the switch, and how do I remove the brake switch to access the contacts? Thanks for any help you can provide.

If you can find a wire near that switch that carries 12 volts when the brakes are applied and none when they are not you could use a quick splice connector like the # 804C. If you can't find anything there another option would be to use the circuit that runs to the third brake light of the RV. It will require a great deal of wire to get it from the back of the RV to the front, but this circuit will only have voltage when the brake is applied.
In the fuse box there might also be a circuit labeled CHMSL or center high mount signal lamp. This is the third brake light circuit that would work as well.
