Will Using a Longer Ball Mount Put Too Much Stress on the Trailer Hitch on a 2006 Dodge Ram

Question:

I need a greater distance between my bumper and trailer. I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 5.7 Hemi 4x4 Quad Cab with the factory hitch. I tow an 18foot open car hauler. Loaded its in the neighborhood of 7500 lbs. I balance my load so the trailer and truck sit level. Im guessing Im at about 10 tongue weight. I have a minimal turning radius when my tongue box is on. Will this BH20 put too much stress on my hitch?

Expert Reply:

The Brophy ball mount # BH20 is not too much longer than standard length ball mounts so the extra stress it would put on the trailer hitch would be minimal if at all. As long as the trailer hitch on your 2006 Dodge Ram has a tongue weight capacity to handle the trailer tongue weight and the 7500 pound gross trailer weight you will be good to go.
