Adapting a 7-Way on a 2003 Chevy Silverado to a 6-Way Round Trailer Connector on Big Tex Trailer
Question:
I recently ordered a 7-Way Molded Connector w/ 10foot Cable Trailer End. I found that my trailer is a 6 wire. My truck is a 2003 Silverado it has the large style receiver that the 7-way has and it is a Big Tex gooseneck trailer. I cant seem to find what I need. Any suggestions? Also, what do I need to do to return the 7-way? Thanks

If your 2003 Chevy Silverado has a 7-Way connector I recommend keeping the 7-Way that you have # 54006-059, and using it to replace the 6-Way on the trailer. A 6-Way is not nearly as common as a 7-Way blade style connector.
You just have to determine the functions of the wires on the trailer and wire them to the new 7-Way accordingly. The functions on the 7-Way should be as follows:
White Wire = Ground
Red Wire = Left Turn and Brake
Brown Wire = Right Turn and Brake
Green Wire = Tail Lights
Blue Wire = Brake Power
Black Wire = 12 volt (hot lead)
Yellow Wire = Aux.
If you don't want to do that then you can use a 7-Way to 6-Way adapter, # HM47570. If you want to return your 7-Way give customer service a call at 800-298-8924 and they can explain what you need to do.
