Can Curt Clamp-On 3 Bike Rack Be Used with Reese Weight Distribution Hitch

Question:

With regard to the Clamp on Bike Rack, what are the outside dimensions of the square vertical riser? I have a light duty Reese WD hitch, and there wouldnt be enough room along the shank to mount the rack as designed, however there is a 2inch vertical riser on the WD hitch, into which I might be able to and bolt the rack, if the tubing is slightly less than 1 1/2 inch if I cut off the base that is supposed to surround the shank

Towing bike racks such as the Curt Clamp-On 3 # C18013 are intended for use on standard ball mounts but not on the shank of a weight distribution system. Also, we cannot recommend modifying or altering any item to use it in a manner that differs from the manufactuer's intent. Capacity and safety margin for a product could change if it is modified.

A better option for you might be the Stromberg Carlson Bike Bunk Trailer-Mounted Bike Carrier for A-Frame Trailers, part # CC-275, that accepts a 2-inch hitch mount bike rack. I have also included for you a link to our page for all 2-inch hitch mount 3-bike hanging carriers. You will need to consider the clearance required for your particular bikes and for any accessory items mounted to your trailer as these will have an effect on your turning radius.
