Length of Trailer Ball Shank for Draw-Tite Adjustable Ball Mount # 7390
Question:
I am intending to buy the following: Drawtite Ball Mount Adjustable with Sway-Control Tab, 6,000 lbs, 7390. How long does the threaded part of the ball have to be to fit properly? The ball mount takes a 2-inch ball. There are balls with minimum 3/8 and 1/2 inch requirements for thickness of towing platform. Thanks for your help.

Expert Reply:
The Draw-Tite Adjustable Ball Mount, part # 7390 has a 5/8 inch thick ball platform, therefore a 2 inch trailer ball with a 2-1/8 inch long shank like the Tow Ready # 63845 would be ideal. When tightened to the proper torque specifications, ideally there would be 2-3 threads showing at the bottom of the shank. The ball has a 7500 lb capacity, which exceeds the capacity of the ball mount.
