Recommended Platform Style Bike Rack Convertible Between 2-4 Bikes for 2012 Lincoln MKT
Question:
I have a 2012 Lincoln MKT. What hitch mounted platform bike carriers will work with this vehicle? Would like 4 bike capability, but many days only require 2 bikes. Thanks

When we installed a Class III hitch on a Ford Flex, we found that the distance between the hitch pin hole and the farthest rearward point of the bumper was right about 3 inches. This dimension on your MKT should be similar. This means that the bike rack you choose would need to have a shank whose hitch pin hole to closest portion of the rack dimension is greater than 3 inches. If you don't already have a hitch, I'd recommend the Curt Class III receiver, part # C13110. I've linked to an install video you might find helpful.
We do indeed offer 4-bike platform bike racks that are capable of being easily being switched between a 2 and a 4 bike capacity. The Hollywood Racks SportRider SE part # HR1400Z and the Thule T2 Pro XTR # TH69TX are both this type of rack
I'd recommend the SportRider SE # HR1400Z. Admittedly, the rack isn't going to win any beauty contests any time soon, but it's very strong and sturdy, and is a great value for the price. The rack includes a locking hitch pin and a locks in the arms to help deter theft. The rack is easily converted between a 2 and a 4-bike capacity.
I'll link you to a product demonstration video featuring the SportRider SE an the Thule T2 Pro XTR.
