To flat-tow your 1997 Toyota Tercel there are a few things you will need. You will need base plates, a tow bar, safety chains, wiring for lights, and most states now require a supplemental brake system for the towed vehicle. You will also want to check your owner's manual to see if there are any specific details concerning towing your vehicle.

We'll start with the base plates. I recommend the Roadmaster Base Plates, part # 1124-2. The custom base plates are a good fit for your Tercel.

The next thing you need is the tow bar. I recommend the RoadMaster Tracker Tow Bar, part # RM-020. This tow bar connects to a 2 inch ball and has a folding feature, making it easy to store. This tow bar has a weight capacity of 5,000 lbs.

The safety chains I recommend are the RoadMaster Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables, part # RM-643.

For lighting I recommend the Roadmaster Standard Magnetic Tow Lights, part # RM-2120. These can be quickly attached to the the car trunk or roof with the strong magnets and uses the included wiring harness to plug into the towing vehicle wiring.

For a supplemental brake system I recommend the Roadmaster Even Brake Portable Proportional Braking System, part # RM-9400. This wireless system is easy to install and use and does not require cutting or splicing into the vehicle wiring.
