4-Bike Platform Carriers for 1-1/4-Inch Trailer Hitch on 2004 Toyota Corolla
Question:
Which Platform Style Bike Racks for 1-1/4 Inch Hitches Have the Highest Weight Capacity and support 4 bikes?

Expert Reply:
All of the 1-1/4-inch trailer hitches offered for your 2004 Toyota Corolla, such as # C11265, are light duty Class I types that are limited to use with a 2-bike rack only. This limitation has to do with the vehicle's frame structure and how much tongue weight it can support without damage. Even if you were to select an ultra-light hanging style rack (generally these are lighter than the platform type) you would still be limited to carrying 2 bikes on any Class I hitch offered for your vehicle.
I have linked you to our page for trailer hitches for your car and also to an article on hitch classes. I have also linked you to our page showing all 1-1/4-inch Class I bike racks with a 2-bike capacity.
In order to transport 4 bikes on your Corolla you could put two on a hitch mount rack and the other two on a roof rack.
A cost-effective roof rack for your Corolla 4-door with bare roof is the # SR1002 from SportRack. To this square bar rack system you can attach any of the roof-mount bike carriers shown on the link provided. You can choose from fork-mount, frame-mount and wheel-mount types.
