Weight Distribution Hitch Recommendation for 22 Ft Enclosed Trailer Weighing 6500 Lbs Fully Loaded
Question:
I just recently purchased a 22foot enclosed trailer, empty it weighs almost 3500 lbs. Loaded I should be around 6500 lbs. When choosing a weight distribution hitch do you figure tongue weight of the trailer empty or loaded? What size do you suggest I get? Thanks

Determining the tongue weight of your fully loaded trailer is very important when selecting a weight distribution system. I have attached an article which gives you step by step instructions on ways to determine the tongue weight of your 22 foot enclosed trailer.
Since a trailer's tongue weight is typically 10 to 15 percent of the trailer's weight, according to the loaded weight that you have given, I am going to assume that your tongue weight will be between 650 and 975 pounds. If your tongue weight does indeed fall in this area, I recommend going with the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution with Sway Control, # RP66560. The trunnion spring bars in this system create a level ride for both your trailer and tow vehicle and the spring-bar hangers with integrated friction pads help to reduce sway. This weight distribution system has an adjustable shank included.
A trailer ball is not included with this system. For a 2 inch ball, you will need part # A-90, or part # 19286 for a 2-5/16 ball.
I have also attached an article which includes answers to some of the most basic weight distribution questions. Please feel free to email if you have any additional questions.
