Will the Hopkins Backup Sensor System # HM60100VA Work on a 2008 Chrysler 300

Question:

I read comments about a potential problem using the Hopkins Electronics - HM60100VA sensor kit on late model Chrysler products. Someone claimed the Chrysler representative said the unit might damage the cars computer. I am considering installing one on my 2008 Chrysler 300. Any info on problems.

You should have no problem using the Hopkins Backup Sensor System, # HM60100VA, on your 2008 Chrysler 300. We have not received any reports of problems with Chrysler vehicles and I spoke with my technical contact at Hopkins who said they have installed this system on many Chrysler vehicles without any issues. A coworker of mine also had a similar Hopkins backup camera system installed on his Chrysler PT Cruiser and has not had any problems.

There is always a chance for something to go wrong when electrical systems are involved, but something else would have to be wrong for this backup sensor to ruin the vehicles computer or electrical system. This system only draws 620 milliamps which your backup circuit should be able to handle with ease. Dealers will often claim that aftermarket products will void warranties or possibly damage something so they can rid themselves of any liability. According to the Magnusson-Moss Act, the dealer can only void the warranty if the aftermarket product caused the failure.
