Adapting 7-Way Trailer Connector on 2012 Nissan Titan To 4-Pole Connector on Trailer

Question:

Regarding Curt C55515 I have a 2012 Nissan Titan SV that has the factory round trailer light connector. I do not know how many pins are inside as I have never opened it up and the truck is on the east coast and I am on the west coast right now. I want to connect a trailer with 4 pin flat wiring. Just want to make sure that this adapter is the correct one for my truck and that I dont need anything else? Thanks

Your Titan would've been factory equipped either with or without the 7-way trailer connector. If there's indeed a connector on the rear, it would be the 7-way.

There's a few ways you can go about doing this. The easiest option would be to adapt the 7-way to work with a 4-pole by using a plug-in adapter like part # PK12716.

You could also use the # C55515 that you referenced. You'd unplug the wiring harness from the rear of your 7-way, and plug the # C55515 inline with that connection. You'd need a bracket like # 18144.

A third alternative would mean removing your existing 7-way by unplugging it from the rear and replacing it with part # HM40975, which would provide both the 4-pole and the 7-way. Keep in mind that the mounting bracket included with the # HM40975 might not be compatible with the existing mounting holes, you might have to drill additional holes to attach.
