What Class Hitch to Install on 1999 GMC Safari to Pull 4 x 7 Utility Trailer
Question:
Im looking into putting a hitch on my 1999 GMC Safari Cargo van. I will be pulling a 4X7 trailer and hauling a small zero turn mower that weighs about 450lbs, what class hitch do I need 2 or 3. Thanks

Since there is a small cost difference between a 1-1/4-inch Class II and 2-inch Class III hitch, I suggest you go for the higher capacity Class III hitch from Curt, part # C13035. A 2-inch Class III hitch will give you higher capacity (for extra safety margin) plus it will offer broader compatibility with a range of hitch mount accessories. Note that you still need to observe the vehicle's tongue weight capacity, which may be lower than the hitch's. I have linked two helpful articles concerning hitch installation.
The etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900 is a convenient assortment of towing essentials, including two ball mounts, two hitch balls and a pin and clip.
If you need a wiring harness to operate your trailer lights you can use # C55411. This splices into your vehicle wiring (located either along the frame rail or behind the rear bumper) to provide a 4-pole for your trailer.
