Transmission Cooler for a 2002 Ford Super Duty with 7.3 Liter Turbo Diesel  

Question:

This is my first truck and Im not sure what is a normal temp on the transmission when towing and when driving without a trailer. I just installed Transmission,Boost,Exhaust temp gauges I have a 2002 7.3 Turbo Diesel SRW with a 4R100 transmission towing a 30foot foot trailer that is 10,000 lbs. Im looking for a very,very good cooler

The optimum transmission fluid temperature is between 160 and 200 degrees. Factory coolers are usually adequate at best. Since transmission fluid cannot be over-cooled adding a supplemental cooler is a good idea.

I recommend going with a larger cooler for your truck since you are likely going to have the space for it and because a larger cooler will be more efficient. Cooler # D13504 is the most popular option. I also reocmmend fitting # D13025 to avoid having to cut and flare lines. I have linked a video review of this cooler and a help article for you.
