I just installed Transmission,Boost,Exhaust temp gauges I have a 2002 7.3 Turbo Diesel SRW with a 4R100 transmission towing a 30foot foot trailer that is 10,000 lbs. The optimum transmission fluid temperature is between 160 and 200 degrees. Factory coolers are usually adequate at best. Since transmission fluid cannot be over-cooled adding a supplemental cooler is a good idea.
I recommend going with a larger cooler for your truck since you are likely going to have the space for it and because a larger cooler will be more efficient. Cooler # D13504 is the most popular option. I also reocmmend fitting # D13025 to avoid having to cut and flare lines. I have linked a video review of this cooler and a help article for you.
