If your 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup has a factory 7-way or 4-way connector at the rear bumper then it will also have a quick-connect brake controller port under the dash. If so, you can use the Hopkins Wiring Adapter # HM47755 that you referenced.

If you have a 4-way you will also need # 37185 and you'll need to complete the wiring that is located under the driver's side wheel well by splicing into it to continue it back to the plug.

If you do not have any factory trailer connector you can still do a hard-wire brake controller installation using # ETBC7 install kit along with a 4-pole wiring harness # 18252. I have linked a helpful article and video to assist your installation.
