Trailer Wiring Harness Recommendation for a 2014 Ford Fusion

Question:

Two months ago, I installed a class one hitch on my Ford Five Hundred AWD Limited. Not related really!, the CVT transmission has failed and the car is heading for donation. So, I have this nice wiring harness that plugged directly in to the Five Hundreds taillight sockets that was installed for two months - can it be used on or modified to fit my replacement vehicle - a 2014 Ford Fusion SE? I have a lot of experience splicing wires - I am not afraid to modify it. But harnesses for the Fusion have a hot lead that goes to the battery and a booster unit. The Five Hundred wiring harness does not have this equipment. Thanks so much!

The power wire you referenced that gets run to the battery to install a trailer wiring harness on your 2014 Ford Fusion is used to protect the delicate taillight circuits of your vehicle. The wiring harness manufacturers have determined that on this vehicle if you were to use the taillight circuits of the vehicle to power the taillights of the trailer it would damage vehicle wiring.

Because of that there is not way I can recommend you use a wiring harness without that circuit protection built into it on your Fusion.

You will need a harness with circuit protection like the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118574.
