Can I use Fifth Wheel/Goosneck Trailer Harness Part # 31156 for my Slide-In Camper Wiring

Question:

I have ordered part #31156 hoping to solve my problem. I have a 2007 Silverado HD 2500 long bed. I just bought a 1999 Starcraft slide in camper. I have wires bundled under my truck that looks like to wire a fifth wheel etc, but there is no voltage on these wires. My goal is to use the part 31156 to connect to my origial trailer connector and then hard wire female connector into my male connector into the slide in camper. Camper has a hook up but only has five wires. I am having problems getting my tail lights and marker light to work. I did have my brake lights and turn signal light working at one time by just hard wiring. I am hopeing that part # 31156 will solve this problem. Unless the tail lights and maker lights run off house battery located inside camper. If you can suggest any thing before I began this project please e-mail me. Thanks

The taillights and marker lights should not run off the battery inside the camper. They should pull signal from the trailer connector.

If you have signal and proper functions at the 7-Way connector at the rear of the vehicle, then the Fifth Wheel/Gooseneck harness you ordered, part # PK11893-11932, should solve your problem. Make sure to use a circuit tester, like part # PTW2993, when you go to wire everything. The camper wiring may not be color code matched to the wiring harness you purchased.

The fifth wheel harness you ordered will have 7-Wires, two of which will not be used. The one should be the blue wire that is used for trailer brakes. I imagine the other will be the purple wire that is normally used for reverse lights, but make sure you use your circuit tester to find out which wires do what. I have added a link to a wiring page that may helpful as well.
