King Pin Adapter to Allow Goose Neck Hitch to Pull 5th Wheel Trailer  

Question:

I just inherited a camper and to save the bed space of my truck I am going to convert the 5th wheel pin into a gooseneck. Thanks to your website I have found the BandW Hide-A-Ball hitch to work with my truck..2004 Chevy 2500HD. I need to know what adapted I would need for the camper king pin..I can send pics if need be. Thanks so much

There are four basic types of adapters that can allow a goose neck hitch to pull a 5th wheel trailer. The best option for you will depend on how often you will tow the trailer in this manner. Some of these devices will place additional stress on the trailer frame and hitch but may be okay for one-time, occasional or short-distance travel. You will want to consult the manufacturer of your trailer on this point.

Others offer a safer permanent solution for frequent use, such as the type that replaces your 5th wheel pin box with a Goose Box coupler such as # RP85FR. These preferred replacement couplers are available only for specific applications: # RP85FR is suitable if your existing pin box is a Lippert 0719, 1621, 1621HD.
