Proportional Brake Controller Installation in 2005 Dodge Caravan SXT

Question:

I need to install a brake controller on my Dodge Caravan SXT 2005 and 7pins wiring for my rockwood 2008 2407 tent trailer. 1 I saw #90915 Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 4 Axles - Proportional seems to be ok on my vehicule. It is sure that this proportionnals gonna be 100 compatible to my caravan? Someone told me that I needed a brake pressure sensor for the proportionnal type and that not every vehicle had this sensor. Also : for the item ETBC7 the wiring 7 pins kits do I also need to add a 4 pins wiring kit for flasher and brakes light control or only the ETBC7 already do all this ? I saw an installation video of this item on a Caravan and the guy was connecting the 4pin output of the ETBC7 to another 4 pins wire so I imagine that there was already a 4 pins wiring in the vehicle in this video has an example.... So for a recap question, with those both products I am ok to connect my tent trailer to the 7 pins connector to manage all lights brakes, flashers and the electrical brake equally proportionnal to my vehicle brake pressure? Oh, last thing, I didnt find any video regarding an installation of a proportionnal brake controller device... only time delay... I do imagine that theres is a good wiring instruction manual in the box... Thank you very much.

Brake controllers are not vehicle-specific so the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 is perfectly suitable for use in your 2005 Dodge Caravan. You will also need the # ETBC7 brake controller installation kit, which includes the 7-way socket, connectors, wiring, circuit breakers - everything you will need. I have linked both a video and helpful article concerning installing this kit.

If your Dodge Caravan does not already have a working 4-pole flat trailer harness you will also need to install one. You can use # 118300 from TowReady, which is a plug-n-play (no splicing required) custom harness that simply plugs in at your Caravan tail light assemblies. I linked an install video for you.

The P3 uses an accelerometer to determine braking force required - no brake pressure sensor is needed.

With these components in place your vehicle's 7-way will provide lighting and braking functions to your trailer.
