What Type of Mounting Screws Should be Used to Install Enclosed Cargo Trailer License Plate Holder

Question:

I just received the license plate holder for my enclosed cargo trailer. What size and type of screw is used to mount this. I will have to just put the sheet metal screw into the aluminum skin as it wont reach a brace for all four mount points. The original trailer owner just drilled the plate into the exterior aluminum on the bottom of the ramp door

The 4 mounting holes for Enclosed Cargo Trailer License Plate Holder # LP35BB are very small so something like an 1/8 inch self-tapping screw should be what you need. If you already have some screws that are larger there is no harm in using the holes in the plate holder as pilot holes but I would not go over 1/4 inch.

Since you are installing the holder onto aluminum I do recommend a self-tapping machine screw or something similar. Otherwise there really is no specific hardware you have to use.
