Hopkins Agility Brake Controller Installed on 2006 Ram 3500 Not Applying Brakes with Brake Pedal

Question:

I installed the Hopkins Agility to my truck, and I am hooked up to my 2007 Montana 342PHT. All lights are working on the trailer including brake lights when the brake is engaged. They even work when I press the manual override on the brake controller, but I am getting no read out on the controller. Also, my trailer brakes are not engaging.

So your controller isn't displaying any error codes of any kind? Has the controller worked before, and this is a problem that recently came up, or has the controller just been installed and hasn't worked from the beginning?

Start by using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 on the red wire exiting the rear of the controller. You should show current on that wire when the brake pedal is pressed. If you don't, you likely have a blown fuse.

If the controller was hardwired, make sure you tapped into the correct stoplight switch wire. Use a circuit tester to ensure the wire you tapped the red wire from the controller into only goes hot with the brake pedal pressed. If you've use a plug-in adapter, make sure you're using the correct one, part # HM47755. Make sure the adapter is pinned out correctly. Look at the plug on either end of the adapter. Looking directly at the back of the white plug, where the wires enter the plug with the clip on top, the wire colors left to right should be black, blue, red and white. The black plug with the clip on top should be wired black, red, white and blue, left to right.

If all is well with the wiring but the brake controller is still not sending power to the brakes, this could mean that the setting on the brake controller is too low. You will need to adjust the settings per the instructions linked below for reference. Also make sure that the controller is installed parallel to the direction of travel, and no more than 20 degrees down and 70 degrees of tilt upward, as mentioned in the installation instructions.
