Recommended Fifth Wheel Hitch Install Kit for 2006 Ram 3500 Mega Cab Diesel Short Bed
Question:
I am interested in the Curt C16541 A20 sliding hitch and had some questions. First, I am going to mount this hitch on my 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 MEGA Cab diesel truck, which has a 6foot bed. I was wondering if this hitch would work on my truck and if so, what mounting rail kit would I need to use. I dont care if the rails are inside the bed. thank you. I am towing a 39foot 13000lb Keystone Avalanche fifth wheel, but want the 20k for extra. Thank you.

We do indeed offer install kits for the Reese # RP30083 that are compatible with your 2006 Ram 3500 short bed mega cab Diesel.
For a universal install kit, use part # RP30035-023. This kit would compatible with your truck as long as it's not equipped with overload springs. The kit has an estimated installation time of 4-1/2 hours.
A custom install kit is also available, part # RP50140-58. You would not need to drill into the frame to install the frame mount brackets, although you would need to drill down through the bed to attach the bed rails to the frame brackets. The custom kit would take about 1/3 of the install time, about 3 hours.
The Curt A20 item # C16541 fifth wheel hitch you mention is an excellent choice. Going with a higher rated hitch will provide you with reserve capacity, which is never a bad thing.
If your truck isn't already equipped with a 7-way connector in the truck bed, you can easily install one using the Hopkins # HM42137.
