How to Reduce Noise from Thule WingBars on 2014 Mercedes GLK350

Question:

Hello, we installed the Thule Aerobars but now there is a constant whistling noise when driving. The front bracket is 56inch from the hatch is that too far? I took the car to the Mercedes dealer and they werent willing to assist because I didnt not buy the crossbars from Mercedes. Does etrailer have any suggestions? Im not looking forward to a 6 hour drive listening to this wind noise. Thank you!

Helpful Expert Reply:

A front crossbar that is 56 inches from the hatch should not be too far. To minimize noise, it is advised that you position the crossbars as far to the rear of the roof line as possible. Also make sure the crossbars are separated by a minimum of 24 inches.

You will want to check to make sure the rubber stripping is snug (no gaps) in the T-slot and that the endcaps are snug. On the underside of the bar make sure you use rubber stripping to fill in any exposed gaps and that that stripping is snug.

Also make sure the overhang of the crossbars is even from side to side, and the WingBars are set at the same position on either side of the vehicle so the bars are running perpendicular to the side rails.

If all else fails try swapping the rear bar with the front bar.
