Availability of Cargo Carrier that is Offset to the Side to Fit Around Rear-Mounted Spare Tire

Question:

We have a Roadtrek 190 Popular with the spare tire continental mount. Do you know of a cargo carrier that is offset to the right side to clear the spare tire?

We offer a range of hitch-mount cargo carriers and these include fixed, folding and swing-out types, such as the Yakima Exo # Y62VR that you reviewed. Although this carrier can swing out of the way for rear-of-vehicle access, when it is locked in the travel position it will be centered at the rear of the vehicle. Similarly, all of the other fixed and folding hitch-mount cargo carriers we offer are designed to be centered at the rear of the vehicle. This is to keep the weight of their loaded cargo centered on the carrier's shank and on the hitch itself in order to prevent damage to both from an off-center load that would introduce twisting forces.

Since the full-size Chevrolet Express Van could be equipped with any of four classes and three sizes of hitch (1-1/4-inch, 2-inch or 2-1/2-inch) you will first want to verify the size and class of hitch on your motor home. We offer cargo carriers in the 1-1/4-inch and 2-inch sizes and the link provided will let you select your hitch size to see carriers that will fit.

You can measure the distance from your hitch pin hole to the rear edge of your spare tire to determine if any given carrier will work for you - if the distance you measure is less than 4-1/4-inches then the platform of this carrier will clear your spare tire.

If you wish to provide the measurement from your hitch pin hole to the rear-most surface of the spare tire and how high the spare is, straight up from the tip of the hitch, I can check for a carrier that will fit without interference.
