Can Electric Drum Brakes Be Added to Torsion Axle
Question:
Can electric trailer brakes be added to a Dexter torsion spring axle? There are no mounting square plates.

It is possible to add a brake mounting flange to a torsion axle, but it is not something a shade-tree welder could successfully accomplish. You'd need to find somebody with lots of experience welding for trailer and RV applications. The brake mounting flanges would need to be welded into place so that they are perfectly square and concentric to the hub face, and the flange would need to be placed so that it would put the brake assembly in the proper location.
The flange needed would depend on the manufacturer of your axle. I've linked you to our selection of brake mounting flanges, as well as to an FAQ article about adding electric brakes to a trailer that doesn't already have them.
