Brake Controller Recommendation for 2007 GMC Yukon Denali XL

Question:

I am looking at purchasing a Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller or your recommendation and need to know what type of connector do I need for my 2007 GMC Yukon Denali XL that has a factory towing package. Is there a connector underneath my dashboard or do I need to hard wire the controller?

I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195. The Prodigy is our best selling brake controller and our customers love them.

Your vehicle does not have a connection or plug for your brake controller, but you will find a bundle of wires taped up under the dash that you can connect to. We have a really handy write up for your vehicle I have linked below.

There will be 4 or 5 wires. If there are 5, you will not use the orange wire. You will match them up to the wires on the brake controller. Using the color code chart on the help page.

You will want to connect the Red/black GM wire to the black brake control (BC) wire;
the white GM wire to the white BC wire;
the light blue/white GM wire to the red BC wire;
and the dark blue GM wire to the blue BC wire.

After you connect the wires, you will need to go to the engine bay to activate the wiring. There are two wires with eye ring terminals that need to be connected to the fuse block posts. You may have to search around the fuse block to find them. Again, the help article has some more information.

I have also included a video of the Tekonsha P3 brake controller installation on a similar vehicle.
