Wiring Adapter Recommendation/Installation for Draw Tite Activator part # 5504 in a 2014 GMC Acadia

Question:

I have a 2014 acadia with trailer tow package, I am installing a Draw tite i stop electric brake controller, the harness that came with the vehicle has 5 wires, the harness on the draw tite only has 4, what is the 5th wire for. The extra wire is gray, Where is the factory plug under the dash, Is there any other fuses or wires I need to add.

The correct harness to use to install your Draw Tite Activator part # 5504 would be the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter part # 3026-P. The harness should be under your dash on the left side of the of the steering column. Check out the picture I attached that shows where it will be.

Only four circuits will be needed to install the brake controller. Brake output, ground, 12 volt power, and stoplight switch. The extra wire could be for an illumination circuit. There are some brake controllers that offer the option of having a backlit display or controls, the illumination circuit would be used for that. Most aftermarket brake controllers do not offer this feature.
