Swagman 2+2 2-Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2012 GMC Terrain and 2004 Chevy Avalanche

Question:

We have two vehicles and want a platform rack for 4 adult bikes. We like the Swagman S64691 and are wondering if it is possible to use it on both vehicles if we use an adapter to fit the 1.25inch hitch on the 2012 GMC Terrain SLT. Our other vehicle has a 2inch hitch and is a 2004 Chevy Avalanche. Also, we are open to your recommendations regarding other platform racks that fit our situation. We do like that the S64691 can be downsized to two bikes for when these two kids move out. - Thank you! P.S.-You have wonderful videos for us newbies. It is a jungle out there just to choose a bike rack and we have loved watching your well-done demo videos.

The Swagman 2+2 2-Bike and 4-Bike Carrier # S64FR would be an excellent choice for a bike rack for your 2004 Chevy Avalanche, but theres not an ideal way I could recommend using this rack on a vehicle with a 1-1/4 inch hitch. When you use a hitch adapter like you referenced you end up cutting the capacity of the hitch in half and end up with a lot of excess play and movement of the rack in the hitch.

I think your best option would be to get the # S64FR but then to also upgrade the hitch on your 2012 GMC Terrain to a 2 inch hitch that way you could use this hitch on both vehicles easily. For a hitch I would recommend the Curt Hitch part # 13591. I attached an install video for you to check out also.
