How to Check if Battery Charger Is Supplying Enough Power  

Question:

I am not sure the battery charger is working. have had dead battery at end of day when towing. how can i test to see if the charger is putting out 15 amps?

Ray, you're going to need to use a multimeter # PT89ZR or test light to look for power at the +12 volt line on your trailer's connector while disconnected from the truck. If it has 12 volts then it's wired into your trailer's 12V system and should be charging while you are towing.

You also should be checking the amperage/current. After you check the amperage, I'd also recommend having the battery load tested. Normally, this can be done for free at an auto parts store or shop.

Bryce, i have tested the line in from the tow vehicle and have 12V. i also see 12 V on the wire to the battery. However i can not see any amperage going to battery using a clamp on amp meter. i would like to better understand why no amperage and am i looking at it correctly. please more information on testing. Ray

@Raymond It sounds like you're checking it fine, it could be the multimeter itself not showing amps.
