Can I Swap Out 4.80x12 Tires for 20.5x8x10 Tires for More Stability?

Question:

I have a 24ft scissor trailer and 24ft pontoon with 4.80x12 tires on it. Was wandering if I could put 20.5x8x10 tires for more stability. Thanks Jerry

That's a great question! Let's find out together Jerry.

The 4.80x12 tires currently on your trailer measure 20.5" in diameter and are 4.9" wide. The 20.5x8x10 which is equivalent to a 205/65-10 tire like item # AM1HP56 is 20.4" in diameter and 8.4" wide so height wise you are good! No need to worry about fender clearance.

The 205/65-10 tire item # AM1HP56 is definitely going to give you a wider foot print which means more stability. So long as you use a zero offset rim the only problem I can see you running into is the tires sticking out from the fenders a bit. If you're ok with that then you will be good to upgrade your boat trailer's tires.

If you would like a recommendation on rims feel free to email me directly or comment below what size lug pattern is currently on your trailer.

Thanks, I don't have fenders on the pontoon trailer.
