Correct Trailer Hitch Fitment for a 2018 Ford EcoSport
Question:
Hi. RE: Ford Ecosport 2018 You offer and show the installation of a Curt 12188 hitch for the Ecosport. Will you please tell me exactly why the Reese Multi-fit 37042 hitch will not fit the 2018 Ecosport?-it appears that the only concern would be the width. If that is true, the width can easily be cut to size. I welcome your comments. Thank you.

Hey Harry, thanks for reaching out!
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12188 is a custom fit installation for your 2018 Ford EcoSport and has holes in the mounting brackets that match up to the holes in your vehicle frame for a no-drill installation.
We don't carry the Reese Multi-Fit Hitch 37042 you referenced, but generally speaking these multi-fit hitches are either for pickups or for older vehicles and even at that they usually require some modification of the hitch or the vehicle for proper fitment.
When I looked at the fit list that Reese has for that hitch it seems to be the case. You're more than welcome to try making that hitch fit if you really want to, but I recommend going with something that you know is designed specifically for your vehicle.

Hi Jon. Thank you for the response. The reasons for my selecting the 37042 hitch is that it has a 2 inch receiver, and that is appears to be really universal; able to move to other vehicles. If there is a way to get a 2 inch receiver on the C12188 hitch, I may reconsider. Please let me know. Thank you again.
