Recommended Solution for a Trailer W/ Pre-Existing WDS Setup

Question:

I have a camper that Im attempting to put a weight distribution hitch on. The individual who owned the camper before me bolted and welded the snap up brackets to the I-beam. Id like to use the brackets he welded on but of course Id have to try to find the exact bar length to correctly fit. It looks to be about 28 inches from ball to center of bracket. Also, it seems most of the manufacturers dont put in the description the length of the bars. Do you suggest I go through the process of removing these welded on brackets and starting over or is there a way I can use these brackets already welded on? Thanks for your help!

Aaron, we do have the Replacement Trunnion Bar for Curt Short-Arm Weight Distribution System # C17336 which are 28 3/8" long that could potentially be what you're looking for, but honestly without knowing for sure you'd be taking a gamble.

I'd honestly just recommend starting fresh and cutting those brackets off. It's going to be a bit more work upfront, but long term it's going to be the best decision.

If you can tell me what sort of tongue weight we are working with, I'd be happy to help you find the best system for your setup. For instance, if your tongue weight was let's say 850 lbs, then you could use the Curt Short-Arm Weight Distribution System with Shank # C17332, which is the system that uses those short 28 3/8" bars mentioned above.
