Installing The Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118378 On A 2002 Toyota Tundra
Question:
Hi, getting around to installing this today. I THINK itll work, but it doesnt connect the way I expected it to, so I want to make sure I do it right. My truck came from the dealership with the tow package. Its already got the wiring harness and 7-pin socket, but I wanted to replace them because of age and corrosion. I found the 8-pin. But I was expecting this Tekonsha kit to be the male side of the plug. Its the female side. On my Tundra 2002, the female side appears to be whats hardwired into my factory wiring. So if I install the Tekonsha kit the way I think it should be installed, Ill be bypassing a large amount of my trucks factory wiring. Just want to make sure this is correct. Photo shows my hardwired plug on the right, Tekonsha kit on the left. Other photo shows the Tekonsha male plug, and the last photo shows where I think it goes. To another factory-looking plug, which the 4-pin comes off. Id be bypassing all this with the Tekonsha kit. Is that what I want to do? Just want to be sure. Thanks! Im not sure my photo uploads are working so please reach out and Ill send photos. It says uploads in progressinch but below that says upload unsuccessful. Thanks

Hey Zach,
On some 2002 Toyota Tundra's they already installed a wire harness in the engine compartment and ran it the battery. You would need to disconnect this harness and the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118378 would take its place. There should also be the 4-pole harness connector located by the driver's side frame rail at the back. This is where you'll plug in the 4-pole wire harness from the # 118378. I've attached a video below where Joe shows this process.
I did not get your pictures but if you're still having issues and want to send them in I'd be happy to take a look.

Thanks Kevin. Instructions for the wiring to the battery were straightforward, as they mentioned the possibility of existing wiring/fuse. But for the wiring in the back, it just said "remove the cap". I did find the video, and that gave me enough info to get mine installed. On my truck, there wasn't a "cap" on the rear wiring. There was a plug, with a male and female, connected. I needed to unplug it, and plug the new harness into one end, which bypasses what seems like factory-installed wiring on my truck, so that was making me unsure. Anyway I've got it installed now and while I don't understand what's happening back there and what the now disconnected factory wiring runs to, everything works, so that's good enough for me.
