Parts Needed To Upgrade A Freight Trailer To 14" Tires

Question:

Hello I’m trying to upgrade my harbor freight trailer. I’d like to swap out the axle without welding to accommodate 14 inch tires. I modified it into a kayak trailer so I need it to be stable for long distances on the high way. Any suggestions?

Hi Josh,

You shouldn't have to replace the axle just to get 14" tires and could likely just need a new set of idler hubs to be able to mount 14" wheels. I'm going to need some information on what you currently have first to see if there's a compatible fit and I'd like to see some pictures of your current wheels and the spacing they have from vertically form the fenders and horizontally from the frame.

Can you remove the hub and measure the spindle with a caliper # PTW80157 at points B, C, and D to get the inner diameters and the hub bore hole for the outer diameter.
