Alternative Kayak Carrying Solution For A 2104 Chevy Equinox With OEM Roof Rails

Question:

Trying to find a roof rack solution for my 2014 Chevy Equinox. Trying to install a kayak assist system that requires a 29.76 spread between racks. Problem is that the design of the equinox rails only allows for a 23 inch spread. Do you sell racks that install on the inside of the rails and are elevated rather than flush mount and also have a t groove on the racks? Required for the assist assembly this would allow me to achieve the proper distance between racks. Cannot use racks that attach from the outside and wrap around

Hello Felix. All of the roof racks we offer for the 2014 Chevy Equinox will clamp on/ around the roof rails. If the design of the Equinox rails limits the spread to 23", then our roof racks would have the same limitation. Unfortunately, there is no alternative roof rack option since you have the OEM roof rails. The only compatible options would be for vehicles without the OEM roof rails.

At this point you would either have to do away with the kayak assist system or look into alternative methods for carrying your kayak. One option would be to use a small kayak trailer like the Malone EcoLight # MAL93FR. This uses a standard J-style carrier and with it being so close to the ground, loading and unloading is a piece of cake.
