Parts Needed To Flat Tow a 2017 Subaru Crosstrek With Manual Transmission Behind 2021 Winnebago View
Question:
Hi! I just bought a 2017 Subaru Crosstrek standard transmission to use as a toad for my 2021 Winnebago View. My understanding is that I will need a means to charge the toad battery while towing as the ignition needs to be on accessory while in tow. I’m having trouble figuring out all the components that I need and which are best for my application: cables, braking system, etc…I’ve been looking at the roadmaster baseplate and tow bar but I am open to other systems such as blue ox. If I get the roadmaster do I need a crossbar? My son is a mechanic and very familiar with Subaru, so I’m not too worried about installation. Mostly concerned about ease of use and reliability. Thanks for your guidance.

The Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit # 52922-1A which fits your 2017 Subaru Crosstrek is going to require a Crossbar # 910021-00. You are also likely going to need a Adjustable Drop Hitch Receiver Adapter # BLU28XR to keep the Tow Bars # RM-676 within 3" of level.
The Accessory Kit # RM-9284-2 along with the Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25 will take care of the electrical components you are going to need. For the braking system I recommend the Demco systems as they are the best in my opinion. The Stay-IN-Play Duo # DM86VR is for tow vehicles using hydraulic brakes like your 2021 Winnebago View will use.
