Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for Industry Standard Rails in a Truck w/ Ramboxes
Question:
Hi! We have a 2015 Ram 3500 Mega Cab Longhorn Limited trim. It has the Ram boxes on the sides of the bed. We are looking for a hitch for our fifth wheel. We already have the rails installed from a previous owner. What hitches would work best for us, considering that we have the short bed and Ram box setup? We were considering a Pullrite Superglide, but I’m not sure if we will need to purchase an adapter or if it will fit the current rails. Also, our camper is a 2021 Flagstaff 528mbs. It is 36.5’ and 12,000lbs fully loaded. We have the Turning Point pin box on it. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the pictures! For your set up with a 2015 Ram 3500 short bed with the RamBoxes, you will definitely need to use a Sidewinder in order to have the clearance to tow a 5th wheel trailer. You can't use a Pullrite Superglide 5th Wheel hitch with a Turning Point because you would have two pivot points. You'll need to use a standard 5th wheel hitch like you would in a long bed truck.
I recommend the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch item # BWRVK3200. This hitch has a 16,000 lbs capacity and uses a dual jaw system to secure the king pin. You will also need the the Wedge Block for Lippert Turning Point Pin Box Item # LC79UD. This will lock the kingpin inside the Patriot head so it doesn't rotate at the 5th wheel hitch.

Thank you for the response! We ended up purchasing an Anderson hitch because I have heard that they work with the Rambox set up. Do you have any thoughts on this hitch?
