Will The Demco Air Force One Braking System Breakaway Switch Work On A Non-Air Brake Motorhome
Question:
I just bought a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee that is already set up for Demco AF 1 system. I have a Class C without air brakes and use a pedal system as aux braking. Will the AF1 breakaway system work without pressure from the coach?

Hey Jeff,
Because the Demco Air Force One # SM99243 ties into the motorhome's air lines to fill the reserve tank used during a breakaway event the breakaway switch likely would not be functional without connecting to a motorhome with air brakes. The reserve tank might have a one-time use worth of air in it but I wouldn't bank on it in an emergency situation.
Your safest option would be to switch to a system that's compatible with your motorhome's brake type. I'm assuming you have hydraulic brakes on your motorhome so I recommend picking up the Towed Car Conversion Kit - Demco Air Force One to Stay-IN-Play Duo Flat Tow Brake System # SM99231 for a fully functional braking system.
