Tongue Weight Capacity When Using Brophy Hitch Reducer and Extender

Question:

About the 7 hitch extender on your website. I have a 12,000 lbs weight distribution hitch which gives me 1,200 lbs tongue weight. How much TW will I loose if I use this extender, it says itll reduce to 1,000 TW, true?

Using the Brophy Hitch Reducer and Extender # HR26 will drop that 1,200 down to this extenders max tongue weight with WDH of 1,000 lbs. The other thing you have to keep in mind is the reduction in hitch capacity since you're using an extender. This particular extender will reduce your hitch capacity by 1/3.

More than likely this won't be an issue but if you can't afford to lose capacity you'll have to go a different route. There are no extended WDH shanks for a 2-1/2" hitch so you would need a reducer sleeve like # e26YR and then a longer shank like # EQ90-02-4600. If you let me know what WDH you have and what rise/drop you need I can confirm fitment for a longer shank for your setup.

Actually I have an Equalizer weight distribution hitch, my trailer is a 2020 Kodiak ultimate, 30' dry weight is 7,000lbs and I two with a 2021 chevy silverado 2500hd 6.6 duramax, which has a receiver of 21/2" with a 2" reducer. I hope this helps. My main reason for the extender is to allow me to fully open the tail gate od the truck Thanks Angelo

@Angelo it looks like your towing capacity is 14,500 lbs. Cutting it by 1/3 would put you at 9,666 lbs. I don't know the exact model to find your GVWR but it looks like you will be right at capacity if you're fully loaded with most models of the 2020 Kodiak Ultimate. It also looks like the tongue weight would go over since that is also cut by 1/3. Based on that information the best option would be the extended shank. This will be 6" longer than the one that came with your system so you can compare it to what you have to see if the tailgate can fully open.
