Tire and Wheel Upgrade Recommendation for 4.80-12 Tire with 4-Bolt Pattern Wheels

Question:

I have a small utility trailer that I am converting to carry kayaks. It has 4 hole 4.8 x 12 wheels. Id like to upgrade it to larger wheels and tires. Where do I start?

Thanks for reaching out, William!

I recommend upgrading to the Kenda KR25 Radial Trailer Tire with 12" Aluminum HWT Wheel # AM31208HWT because you get a higher weight rating (1,220 lbs at 65 psi), a higher speed rating at 81 mph, and an aluminum wheel that not only looks more stylish than the standard steel wheel, but it also does a much better job at resisting corrosion when it comes to water exposure.

You'll be taking away about 1/2" of height clearance to the fender, and about 1/2" from the sidewall to your trailer frame so I don't foresee any issues there!
