Differences Between Rhino-Rack Pioner Platform Racks for a 2014 Ford E-350

Question:

Hello, can you tell me the difference between the Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform 100inch X 62inch number RR82TB for the 2014 Ford E350 regular cab and the Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform 100inch X 62inch number RR43QX for the same? By the descriptions, the kits are identical. If there is a difference in items included, please let me know. Thank you.

Hey Tom, thanks for reaching out!

The Rhino-Rack Pioneer Platform Roof Tray # RR82TB is just the tray while the Rhino-Rack Pioneer Platform Rack - Gutter Mount # RR43QX is the same platform rack, but it also comes with 8 count of both the RLTP Leg Adapters # RRVA-FK1 and the Gutter Mounts # RL150S10.

The second part number gives you the complete roof rack that can be mounted to your 2014 Ford E-350 so you'll want to go with that.

Got it. The more I read, the more confused I get. What are Vortex Bars? I take it they are sold separately? Also, what is the "Fit Kit"? Is this another additional "sold separately " item. I couldn't find it on your online store or on Rhino Racks site. I was also wondering, can I add roof air? Should it be installed first or after the roof rack is installed? Do you offer an adjustable leg height? 5 and 9/10ths inches is higher off the roof than I would like. Lastly, is there a package that is all inclusive? Obviously no accessory brackets, awnings, etc. Thank you for your time. Sorry to be a bother, but your Rhino Rack info is not very clear.

@TomK Roof rack stuff can definitely get confusing with all of the parts they use. The all-in-one kit you need is part # RR43QX. No Vortex bars or other parts are needed. The legs you're talking about (what I called the fit kit) aren't adjustable and are the only ones that Rhino-Rack offers to fit your vehicle. The 5-15/16" height is standard for roof platform racks. Just to satisfy your curiosity, Vortex bars are the crossbars used for a traditional roof rack.

@JonG Thank you Jon. Do you know if I should put the roof rack up before the roof air or the other way around? How many of the feet/legs come with the all inclusive kit? Would you recommend adding extra since there will be a space where the roof air is? I figure there will need to be extra strength where the slats are cut. What are your thoughts? I'm sure this has been done before. I'm looking forward to hear your ideas. Thanks again Jon.

@TomK Sorry, I forgot to ask what you meant by roof air. Is this an air vent in the roof of your van? The kit comes with 8 feet/legs. You can add more if you'd like, but I can't recommend cutting into the platform rack. If you were to cut the slats to make room for an air vent then you would need to find a way to support those slats to the roof directly around where you've cut them.
