Can a Fixed 5th Wheel Hitch Be Used on a 2020 GMC Sierra 2500HD Short Bed

Question:

Hello. I just bought a 2020 GMC Sierra 2500hd Denali crew cab with the 6.8 short bed. I have a 2022 Grand Design Reflection 31MB 5th wheel that I was pulling with a 2021 Nissan Titan XD short bed with a sliding hitch. Do I need a sliding hitch for my 2020 Sierra 2500.

Hey Bernie, thanks for reaching out!

We typically recommend using a sliding hitch for any bed under 8' long, but we've found that the GM trucks don't pose a problem with turning granted the 5th wheel being towed has a tapered nose and you're careful while taking those tighter turns.

If you'd like to go with a stationary hitch then I recommend a B&W setup which includes their Gooseneck Hitch # BWRVK3500 and the Companion # BWGNRK1020. I really like this setup because it not only gives you both a gooseneck and a 5th wheel setup, but it also gives you a clean bed when you aren't towing - no more permanent rails sitting in your bed to get in the way.
