Can I Use The Blue Ox WD Hitch BXW2000 With A Gen-Y Stacked Receiver Ball Mount?

Question:

I have a 3/4 ton GMC Denali lifted up 5.5inch riding on 37s. December 3, 2023, I bought a Gen Y-hitch through etrailer. That order number was 120263848. The Gen Y hitch I got had a 9 inch I believe. I often need to use all of the drop to be flat. I was wondering if the shank from the Gen Y would work with this Blue Ox weight dist set up BXW2000? If not, is the shank that comes with the BXW2000 9inch like my Gen Y? If not, can you provide a longer shank for more?

Hello Don. For starters, we do not recommend using the Blue Ox WD Hitch # BXW2000 with the shank from your Gen-Y hitch. While the Gen-Y shanks are durable, they are simply not meant to be used in this way.

That said, the # BXW2000 comes with a 9-hole shank which provides a maximum of 2" of drop. It is possible to use a larger shank with this system. Something like the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Shank # EQ34FR would be a great option that provides up to 12" of drop. The only downside with this is the shank is only rated for 16,000 lbs. With the Blue Ox hitch being rated for 20K, you would not be able to go higher than 16,000 lbs so this may not be practical. There are no 20K rated shanks that will provide the amount of drop you need.

The modifications you made to your truck make it less than ideal for a tow vehicle since it rides so high. Using a larger shank really is your only option though.
