Would Older SMI DUO Braking System Work in 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid

Question:

We have recently downsized from a diesel pusher to a 2021 Sprinter chassis Coach with hydraulic brakes. We purchased a 2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid to flat tow behind. Being a pack rat, I have kept an early SMI Stay-N-Play that I had used from 2003 or 2004 until we upgraded to a diesel coach with air brakes in 2006 and I went with a different system for toad braking. I removed and have all the parts from the old SMI system. Can I use this old SMI brake system in my new Maverick? My concern is with the Maverick being a Hybrid with continuous power assist brakes. The new DEMCO Duo seems to be basically the same unit and the Duo works with the Maverick. Also, has there been substantial improvements to the newer DEMCO Duo that I should consider? I’d sure like to be able to show my wife that it was worth keeping those old tow parts in the garage for all those years. Thanks for any help you can give.

Hey Terry, this is a great question but I would assume due to the age of your SMI system and fact you have a hybrid now that has the different braking system it won't work. 20 plus years ago the braking system you have now was not around for SMI to have made their system compatible. It is a shame though as this ALMOST worked out and would have been a great moment to rub in your wife's face that holding onto things does pay off haha!

So it would be time for a new DUO part # DM86VR.
