Roof Rack and Kayak Carrier for a 90 Pound Hobie Mirage Oasis Kayak and 2013 BMW X3  

Question:

Cant seem to find a carrier that can support the 90 lb weight of my kayak. I have a 2013 BMW X-3 currently with just the basic side rails. Yakima says they dont have one that will attach to the X-3 rails. Thought I could adapt a Yakima my brother in law uses along with the pull out boat loader so one person could get the kayak on the roof. Any suggestions?

For a roof rack that will fit your 2013 BMW X3 with the side rails that run front to back you can use a Thule rack using the following parts:

47 inch SquareBars # TH712200 or WingBar # TH711220
Thule feet # TH710601
Fit kit # TH186007

This rack has a 165 pound capacity. But check the X3 owners manual to determine the capacity of the roof and if lower go by the lower capacity. You can then use the Stacker, # TH830. It does not have a capacity because it will be holding up a kayak placed on its side while the bars support the weight.
