Why Would a Husky 32218 Weight Distribution Hitch Require Different Lifting Force On Each Side?

Question:

I tow with 2021 ram 1500 4x4 with 5.7 Hemi. My trailer is a Sunset Trail 253RB dry weight 5750, tongue weight 670. The hitch is a Husky 32218 weight distribution hitch. The head is on 2nd hole on shank with 4 washers. The lift brackets on trailer are 4th hole from top. The problem is one side of bars comes on and off with no problem but the other side requires great force and goes on with great difficulty and when taking it off, will not only off the lift bracket but also swings out 4 or 5 inches with great force, like it is under a lot of side pressure. Im thinking about lowering the lift bracket 1 hole on both sides or taking 1 washer out to reduce ball angle. Why would one be easy off and the other be difficult and swings out? Would appreciate any input as the bar flung out and almost broke my arm.

It sounds like your Husky 32218 weight distribution hitch head itself is damaged. With the way the bar is flinging out it sounds like mounting tab where the spring bar sits into is bending up as it goes out which explains why the bar would also push out under load. This would also explain why both sides do not require the same amount of force to lift both sides. You can try reaching out to Husky to determine if this is something they will cover under warranty. If they won't I recommend looking at the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37100ET which is one of the best quality systems we carry.
