Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch For A 2022 Ford F-250 With A Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover

Question:

I’m looking ahead. I plan ti buy a 5th wheel trailer under 10,000 lb GVW. I have a F250 super duty with 8ft bed. I would like to keep a tonneau tri fold on it and the bed is 18” deep. What hitch do you suggest? Thank you

Hello David. I can definitely help point you in the right direction. Does your 2022 F250 have the OEM 5th wheel prep package in the bed? Post in the comments below and let me know because that will be a major deciding factor in selecting a hitch.

If you do have the OEM prep package, you will have a lot of options for a hitch that will fit in the 18" deep bed with a tri-fold tonneau on top. My recommendation is the B&W Companion OEM 5th-Wheel Hitch for Ford Super Duty Prep Package # BWRVK3300. This is a 20K rated hitch and is 16-3/4" tall overall. Meaning it will fit under the tonneau with room to spare. B&W makes an extremely solid hitch. It is easy to assemble and use and they are very durable. Made here in the USA too.

If your truck does not have the OEM prep package you can still use a B&W companion hitch, the setup will be a bit different though. You will need the installation kit # BWGNRK1116-5W as well as the 20K Companion Hitch # BWRVK3500-5W. This one will be 16-1/4" tall making it compatible with your tonneau cover. The cool thing about this setup is the installation kit is actually a B&W Turnoverball gooseneck hitch. Once that is installed the # BWRVK3500-5W hitch simply installs into the square gooseneck ball hole. So, setup will be very easy, and you can also tow a gooseneck trailer if that need ever arises.

Keep in mind that these B&W Companion hitches are adjustable in height. The height that I mentioned above is the lowest possible height setting. So, they can be raised slightly higher if needed.

You may also want to get the Curt 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Custom Wiring Harness # C57010. This will allow you to relocate the 7-way plug to the bed of your truck if you don't have one in there already.

Feel free to comment below if you have any further questions.
